Meeting Minutes – WMTC Board of Directors
April 8, 2026

  1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Muthig at 8:35 a.m.
  2. Roll Call: Director Gensheimer, Director Jackson, Chairman Muthig, Director Richards-Schuster, Director Tawakkul, Director Williamson, WCC Board Liaison Eileen Peck were in attendance. Director Miller was viewing remotely thru Zoom. Also in attendance today was WTMC Teacher Drew Zemper.
  3. Public or Staff Communications: There were none at this meeting.
  4. Featuring WTMC: Steve Keskes, Head of School/Principal, Jessica Ackerman, Assistant Head of School, Director of Curriculum, English Teacher, and Patrick Baxter, Assistant Head of School and Math Instructor made a presentation to the Board regarding attendance, tardiness and parent engagement. They shared the three legs of credentialing; Academic Success, Accuplacer Success and Soft Skills. Their PowerPoint presentation addressed the early alert attendance system, academic caution support system, and the proactive behavior support system.
  5. Updates and Announcements: There were none at this meeting.
  6. Consent Agenda: The Meeting Agenda, and the February 4, 2026 Board Meeting Minutes were both approved. Director Jackson moved, and Director Gensheimer seconded, the motion carried unanimously.
  7. Financial Consent Agenda: The December 2025 and the January 2026 Financials were both approved. Director Gensheimer moved and Director Richards-Schuster seconded, the motion carried unanimously.
  8. Dean’s Reports: Dean Covert; we have completed our admissions cycle for the Fall of 2026. We will have 850 students next Fall, with 220 being new incoming students. BASE advisors will be meeting with their new students and their parents in June. The new incoming students have already begun their testing. We will have 154 new 9th graders, and 66 middle college students. All is going well with our new staff and their acclamation to WTMC. Our new administrators are all teaching at least one section in the classroom. We will be hiring a new fulltime Social Worker to start in the Fall. Dean Covert serves as a Board Member for both the Middle College National Consortium and the Michigan Early Middle College Association. Dean Covert has presented for both this past year. The Michigan Department of Education will be doing a site visit to WTMC on April 28th. WTMC will put on a full presentation, and give them a tour of our classrooms, the Hoop House and the Aquaponics Lab.
  9. Committee Reports: Finance Committee - Dean Covert will be meeting with Director Miller in early May regarding the budget. Governance Committee – Director Jackson shared with the group that we have completed the steps, and meetings to now have Dean Covert forward to the WCC the name of our new potential Board member for them to approve. Director Tawakkul moved and Director Jackson seconded to have Andrew Settecerri’s resume sent to Linda Blakey at WCC for Admin, and then WCC Board approval. AdHoc OnBoard Software Committee – Director Gensheimer; Maeve Devlin will be participating next Fall during the Board meetings with note taking (remotely) and helping committees. Policy Committee - Director Gensheimer; the committee will look over the NCSI 2026 Spring Board Policy update when it becomes available.
  10. WCC Liaison Report: Eileen Peck shared with the group that the WCC master plan meeting happened with the contractor. It will be a very in-depth analysis. Process will be completed by January 2027. WCC is looking for a plan that would last at least 10 years. Elevator replacements will be taking place over the next three years.
  11. Strategic Planning – Report and Discussion: Director Gensheimer shared the updated list in OnBoard.
  12. Board Topic for Discussion – WCC Master Plan: Discussion was had around CTE programs.
  13. Adjourn: Chairman Muthig adjourned the meeting at 10:34 a.m.
